Congratulations on your pregnancy!

While this is surely an exciting time for you and your family, you may also be feeling a little anxious. And it’s no wonder — deciding where to deliver is a big decision. It’s important to choose a hospital with providers who will guide you through every step of your pregnancy and childbirth.

Our obstetricians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, certified nurse-midwives and nurses work together to provide the best, most attentive care for mom and baby. We have the region's lowest cesarean delivery rate and highest rate of vaginal birth after cesarean - two statistics that prove the expertise of our talented team.

Prenatal Care Options

When it comes to prenatal care, what’s your style? Would you prefer to have one-on-one appointments with your doctor or midwife? Or, do you like the idea of learning about your pregnancy with other moms-to-be through our innovative Group Prenatal Care Program? If you’re eager to prepare for your role as a parent, you can take classes such as childbirth preparation, breastfeeding, newborn parenting, infant CPR and safety, and infant massage.

Choices in Childbirth

What are your plans for the big day? Do you want to birth your baby naturally, supported by one of our awesome midwives, or would you prefer to deliver with a highly skilled obstetrician and are all about an epidural for pain relief? Perhaps you’ve had a prior cesarean delivery but want to try to give birth vaginally this time? At VCU Health, we offer all of these options and will respect whatever choices you make.

Nurturing Newborn Care

During your stay with us, you and your family will appreciate our comfortable, newly renovated rooms. More importantly, you’ll appreciate the support of our nurses and lactation consultants, who will teach you how to feed, bathe and calm your baby. You’ll also learn about safe sleep, car seat safety and when to call your baby’s doctor. Our goal is for you to leave the hospital feeling confident about caring for your baby at home.

In Her Words

There’s no better place in Richmond for you to have your baby than VCU Health. We’ll respect your wishes and will work with you to create the birth experience you want. But don’t just take our word for it, let real VCU Moms explain why delivering with us is so special.
