Until recently, women of Southern Virginia and Northern North Carolina had to travel to receive prenatal care and deliver their babies. With the opening of VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, that’s all changed. Our obstetricians, certified nurse-midwife and nurses collaborate to provide the best, most attentive care for mom and baby. We’re proud to have the region’s lowest rate of primary caesarean delivery — a statistic that proves the expertise of our talented team.

Moms love our small-group approach to prenatal care. Centering Pregnancy® allows you to learn about your pregnancy and share the experience with other moms-to-be. You’ll receive the same attentive care that you’d receive during an individual prenatal appointment, but with even more time to ask questions and learn about your pregnancy, childbirth and becoming a parent.

When the big day arrives, you’ll have your own comfortable room in our new Garland Birthing Center to labor, give birth and bond with your baby. Our labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum rooms include labor tubs and other amenities that create a relaxing environment for your baby’s birth.

Once your sweet baby is in your arms, you’ll appreciate the support of our nurses, who will teach you how to feed, bathe and calm your little one. You’ll also learn about safe sleep, car seat safety and when to call your baby’s doctor. Our goal is for you to leave the hospital feeling confident about caring for your baby at home.

It should give you peace of mind to know that if you or your baby needs extra care, we offer direct access to our specialists in Richmond who can handle any complication that might arise during pregnancy or birth.
